רחובות תל אביב במבצע "עמוד ענן"

מבצע "צוק איתן" פגש אותי במקלט. באזעקה הראשונה אורנה אמא של מילה החליטה שכולם יורדים למטה, וכך היה. 4 אימהות, ובממוצע 14 ילדים לכל אזעקה. (כמה פעמים אירחנו ילדים מבאר שבע שעידכנו אותנו על כל האפליקציות השוות בנושא). לפני שנתיים ביום השני של "עמוד ענן" כולם פינו את המקלטים. אני זוכרת שישי אחד בו אני עוזבת את משפחתי לאזעקות ויוצאת חמושה במצלמה לרחובות העיר כדי לתעד את הבציר השכונתי שנמצא ברחובות בעקבות פינוי המקלטים. הפעם חוץ מספה אחת ושני כיסאות בימאי, הרחובות היו ריקים. אצלנו במקלט, בזמן הזה המצב כנראה רק החמיר, וכמות הג'אנק שנאספה, השאירה בממוצע 10 ס"מ רבועים לאדם. בעודנו מחכים לשמיעת ה-בום, בין קטסטרופה אחת לשניה קלטתי אותו. נחבא אל הקיר, שכבות של אבק מכסות אותו, מעליו שקית עם שמיכה ישנה ומצדדיו כמה זוגות אופנים. כיסא וינדזור! ישן ומאובק עם רגליים מחוטבות ומושלמות. בכל אזעקה שהיתה הקשר הבלתי מילולי ביננו הלך והתחזק. הוא המשיך לעלות אבק ואני דמיינתי אותו מתוקן, מחודש וזורח באור היום. היום זה קרה. הבאתי אותו הביתה ניקיתי אותו קלות והוא הואר מפוטניציאל. עכשיו רק נשאר למצוא בעל מלאכה - ארטיזן מקומי, שידע איך לתקן אותו ולהשיב לו את חייו הראויים. מכירים מישהו?

Bodging Milano הינו פרוייקט יפהפהה בו תשעה כיסאות נעשו על ידי תשעה מעצבים בשישה ימים. הם נוצרו בחיק הטבע של יער אנגלי, בסדנא שכולה על טהרת עבודת הידיים, עם כלי עבודה מסורתיים ושיטות עבודה מסורתיות הכוללות כיפוף העץ על ידי אדים, אשר חוממו באש טבעית. ממש כפי שעשו את כיסא הוינדזור המקורי.

A new life in the "Junktion"

Is it a charming fish net or Is it a fish killing machine? Junktion studio is located in Jaffa port.

I can't write about Junktion - Gurit Magen's upcycle design studio without mentioning the legendary Ready made artist Marcel Duchamp. Whereas he was looking always after the concept - a new context giving by changing the place of the object, Magen is after the function - a new context giving to an old object by changing its function.

In junction studio one can see a pile of junk, useless broken stuff whereas in the same time one can see nostalgic and old objects that in a humorous way got a second chance and have been given a new life by the design work of Magen.

בסטודיו ג'אנקשין אפשר לראות ערמה מכובדת של זבל, חפצים שבורים וחסרי שימוש, אבל באותה נשימה אפשר גם לראות חפצים ישנים ונוסטלגיים שבדרך הומוריסטית קיבלו הזדמנות שניה וזכו לחיים חדשים, על ידי עבודת העיצוב של מגן

In my journey (this blog) I find that sometimes designers create from a pure sustainable agenda - their direct motive is saving earth, and sometimes they create for the sake of creation - designing from waste only because it's giving them an endless inspiration platform. Either way our abundance era is the trigger for all of this phenomena that called upcycle. It creates our immediate need to handle the consequence of our affluent society and it creates enormous amounts of waste we could use, for the industry in general and for the design field in particular.

And that was my interpretation as the spectator.

The lab girls

The lab <1> Ab-cyc-lutely design studio

For the Kulla girls sustainability is definitely in their blood. They drink from reused jam jars. Their place is full of lost vintage furniture waiting to be repaired. Their studio's design projects are usually characterized with community or environment contents (or both), such as designing agriculture children's farm. In general they believe in reduction instead of mass production.



The lab <2> Upcycle the shutters

Adi Shpigel and Keren Tomer go along since their product design studies at Shenkar College. At those times they have noticed a repetitive behavior - many people in Israel have changed their 60's plastic shutters for glass windows. After they have managed to get a stock of those hated shutters they started observing them, checking them and testing them. The solving of the shutters puzzle came from the side look of them - their profile. Than they could thread iron through the inner part of the shutter, and by that to strengthen it enough for seating. Another option they discovered to upcycle the shutter is to slice it, and than join the slices to a decorative screen.

The lab <3> Upcycle the sawdust

This time sawdust was in question. What could they do with it? How could they glue it? The girls tried time after time all sort of solutions until smoke was out of the "lab". One day they had their Eureka:-)! They cooked the sawdust together with reused-colored-nylon-shopping bags and for their surprise, it was the ultimate design complete solution, without using any glue and upcycling the bags as well.
