Handmade

Michael Leavitt, IntuitionKitchenProductions.com

As I am also writing at Xnet - the leading lifestyle blog in Israel, I am starting a new habit - letting you know each time a new post of mine is published. The picture above is from my latest post about Handmade (in Hebrew).

yours,

Michal

Simple

Pashut means simple in Hebrew, and that's the way craftsman Amnon Lipkin describes his work. He likes the way you can simply see how he made the object. It's not a magic and it's not hidden.

His whole vibe speaks the same language - simplicity and modesty. He remembers himself since he was 18th, always walking with a needle and an embroidery string stuck in his pocket. Later on, he found himself, by the conservative expectations working in a hi-tech company as an engineer. Very soon he took off to Rome, Portugal, London and center of America. There, in Guatemala he was sewing, fixing things, usually helping friends in their local business. Over the years he explored many techniques and materials. He likes to work with plastic, craft board, cloths and strings, expressing with them his personal voice. This days, he is into sewing urban landscapes of Tel Aviv.

Amnon has a very gentle and genuine way to chose some old and "ugly" images, that we didn't notice and maybe even hated in the past, and showing them in a new, warm and nostalgic kind of handmade way.

Amelim

Amelim by artist designer Limor Bruck

The name Amelim is a combination between Amelie and her first name Limor. Her use of the alter ago name together with her name, presents the combination which concealed in Limor's "Eyes" - lighting creations:
between imagination and reality,
between an inner world and external world,
between traditional and modern - the use of craft felt versus glowing silicon - GITD
between collecting energy and discharging energy,
and eventually and symbolically between our home - our most protected environment, and the danger which can be anytime, anywhere.

The garbage castle

Hiriya - The Center of Environment Education has recently been renovated. A lot of people were involved in this project, but one specific that I admire and is definitely giving the tone of Hiria's charming look is artist Brigitte Cartier which her artistic magic language is all over the place.

The Center has a very live full facebook page and some of its future activities is a TEDx event and a "Purim" workshop for preparing costumes from waste.
so stay tuned:

Night garden

OGE Creative Group are going to exhibit this month, at the Fall-In events (Michigan’s Great Lakes Bay Region). Their project "Night Garden" is a magical Garden that offers a variety of flowers of different sizes and types of illumination, which come alive only at night. Powered entirely by solar energy, the flowers are charged by sunlight during the day; and illuminated through energy-saving LED lights, at night. The Garden demonstrates the
importance and beauty of alternative energy, in protecting the environment, thus, safeguarding our future.

The group's aim for this installation is to demonstrate that by using alternative energy and technology, not only are they safeguarding our environment, but they are also creating a poetic, magical experience – A visual showcase of how sustainable energy and installations can be beneficial for our cities and our lives.

And another enchanting project of the OGE group, that I have fallen in love with:

Prima Ballerina by OGE at Lighting Festival Jerusalem 2013

This installation breathes life into the classical music box. It offers a glimpse of shared childhood experiences of the excitement when you opened the box. Shrouded in bright colorful LED lights, the ballerina dances against the background of the massive old city walls; twinkling, sparkling and delicate.

Credits and special thanks to:
Music: music box version of Utada Hikaru's "First Love", published by EMI Japan/Universal
Photography (still shots): Daniel Adams
Programming: Yitzhak Sal-man
Engineering: Israel Arad — at Jerusalem Old City.

Art in the desert

In-D-Negev is an alternative festival which is happening once a year (next weekend) in the Negev - the desert part of Israel. It's about exploration of the local indie scene. One of the festival attraction is an Art project - Art-E-Zachen (a variation on the Idish words: AlteZachen which means old stuff). The project's installations are made from waste, mostly byproduct of the festival's establishment, but there are also installations (Israeli and Worldwide artists) which are brought especially to the event. The combination of Art-E-Zachen, the music, the community and the desert, is what they call - In-D-Negev. The following pictures are from previous years. Everyone is invited to see this year creations.
